Liquid droplet discharge device and driving method therefor

Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid droplet discharge device excellent in stability, having favorable frequency characteristics, and capable of discharging liquid droplets including less satellite while minimizing the influence on a drive waveform length and a waveform configuration even if the change in environmental temperature is relatively large.SOLUTION: A liquid droplet discharge device includes a recording head 34 mounted therein and having a plurality of nozzles discharging ink droplets by driving an actuator by a drive signal and applying a pressure to a plurality of pressure chambers storing therein ink. The drive signal includes: a first contraction waveform element for discharging at least the liquid droplets; and a second contraction waveform element for further contracting a liquid chamber after applying the first contraction waveform element, and driving the nozzles not to discharge the liquid droplets. The drive signal is set such that timing of applying the second contraction waveform element is closer to timing of damping a pressure wave generated by the first contraction waveform element at a high environmental temperature, and that the timing of applying the second contraction waveform element is closer to timing of exciting the pressure wave generated by the first contraction waveform element at a low environmental temperature.
【課題】環境温度の変化が比較的大きい場合においても、駆動波形長および波形構成への影響を最小限にしつつ、安定性にすぐれ、良好な周波数特性を有し、かつサテライトの少ない液滴を吐出できる液滴吐出装置を提供する。 【解決手段】駆動信号によりアクチュエータを駆動し、インクが格納された複数の圧力室に圧力を印加することで、複数のノズルよりインク滴を吐出させる記録ヘッド34を搭載した液滴吐出装置であって、駆動信号は、少なくとも液滴を吐出させる第1収縮波形要素と、第1収縮波形要素印加後さらに液室を収縮させ、液滴を吐出しない第2収縮波形要素を具備し、環境温度が高温時に、第2収縮波形要素の印加タイミングを第1収縮波形要素によって発生した圧力波の制振タイミングに近く、環境温度が低温時に、第2収縮波形要素の印加タイミングを第1収縮波形要素によって発生した圧力波の加振タイミングに近くなるよう設定した。 【選択図】図8
